Jim is a consulting naturalist for WCCO Radio, co-author of the Minnesota
Weatherguide Calendars, author of three books on nature in Minnesota, and writes
a nature column which appears in several newspapers. He teaches part-time in
the Environmental Studies program at Gustavus Adolphus College, where he
graduated in 1962. After earning a Master of Natural Science degree from the
University of Oklahoma he studied at several other institutions. For 30 years
Jim served the Hopkins Public Schools as a science teacher and naturalist,
retiring in 1998. Sandy and Jim have three grown sons, and are grandparents.
Sandy is a former public school music teacher and for 12 years was the manager
of their family business - Jim Gilbert's Wild Bird Store. Together they have
been hosts for over 20 ecotours to such destinations as Costa Rica, the
Galapagos Islands and Kenya. The Gilbert's home is near the shore of Lake
Waconia, about 30 miles west of Minneapolis.
