Jon Smithers
Wildlife, Nature & Landscape Photography
About the Workshop: Jon will show you how to take good pictures of hummingbird by explaining how to prepare and practice with the camera, the lens used and how the time of day plays a role in your photographs.
About Jon: A few years after Jon left home he got his first 35mm camera; it was a Minolta XG9. He remembers when his wife, Karen and he would hike on the north shore of Minnesota and take 36 pictures with a roll of Kodachrome. He came away from their trip on the North Shore with 72 pictures from their hikes on 10 or more trailes. Sometimes film would be in the camera for 6 months before they would take the last picture and get them developed....and then came technology and the digital world.
With 18 years of computer and graphics experience digital photography was a natural fit for Jon. Now with his digital camera he takes at least 100 photos on each trail. He is taking 1000's of photos instead of the 36 or so in a month with film. Although in the beginning Jon didn't have the professional equipment, he learned more about exposure and composition with lots of practice and at little or no cost.
